Great game for the neutral last night as Manchester United confounded if not all then some of the critics with a battling display to earn themselves a draw and keep the tie alive. Manchester United will be buoyed but he fact that Bayern will be missing three big players for the second leg (Alcantara, Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez).
With such a deep squad Bayern will easily be able to find cover for these three but Schweinsteiger in particular will be a miss as he anchors the midfield so beautifully and also provides the goal threat which we witnessed last night. While the result favours Bayern Manchester United will have taken a huge amount of confidence from this game after the poor season that they have had by their standards.
It’s game on for the second leg and Manchester United will feel that they have every chance of nicking a result of in Germany. They will face a similar tactic and it’s a question of whether they can make their minority possession count. Here’s some reaction from Twitter:
