Chelsea still have way too much to play for this season for the fans to start thinking too much about who might arrive at the club in the summer.
But, with a coach as meticulous as Jose Mourinho, very little will be left to chance in the short or long term. He will have a good idea of who he wants to sign this summer and has probably already passed a shortlist on to the top brass.
We would imagine that Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid would almost certainly be on that menu. Because, while he might not be quite as sharp as a Cavani or Falcao, he could well be the most realistic target for Chelsea this summer.
Because he is at a club which has traditionally had to part company with their very best players – Torres, Falcao and De Gea are two of the most celebrated names to have left the club.
It won’t be a straightforward deal for Chelsea with so many other clubs interested in the star. English clubs were rumoured to be showing interest even before the hype had really begun to surround the lad’s every move, and Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked more recently.
But when Chelsea want their man they generally pull out all the stops to get him. They have proven over the years that they are highly efficient at getting deals done with other suitors circling. Eden Hazard is a great recent example. Everyone wanted him but Chelsea got their man.
I would absolutely love to witness, at first hand, the sort of persuasion tactics employed by the billionaire owner of the club – three days on a yacht with 5 absolute sizzlers, naked except for the Chelsea shirts that cling to their Amazonian bods? Of course that doesn’t happen – except in our lurid imaginations. Or does it? Of course it doesn’t…
Does it?
Anyway, Chelsea are favourites for the signature of the player before September with SkyBet at odds of 7/4. We think he could well be Mourinho’s next Drogba.
