Everton have had a really tough run of recent fixtures. They have played Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham in their last six games across league and cup but results have generally remained good.
Amongst those positive results was a 3-1 defeat of today’s opponents Swansea in the 5th round of the FA Cup last month. Everton went out to Arsenal in the next round so they can now concentrate on a strong finish to the league campaign and, hopefully, a place in next season’s Europa League.
As for Swansea, it’s been something of a damp squib of a season with the surprise sacking of the fan favourite Michael Laudrup. They are currently 4 points and 4 places above the drop zone. But improving Sunderland have played two games less, in 18th, and Swansea won’t want to get any closer to the bottom. They need to pick up points quickly.
