We think that Tim Sherwood has been refreshing in his approach to grabbing the reigns at Tottenham. From the off he made it very clear he wanted the job and this bullish tone probably landed him the position.
As for his actual coaching ability, it’s a more debatable subject. We believe that you need three major qualities to be a top coach. Tactical nous, man-managment ability and transfer acumen. We haven’t seen Sherwood’s work in the transfer market yet but the other two qualities look as if they need development. In truth we can’t see Sherwood at Tottenham as manager at the start of next season.
So it appears that the transfer business is being negotiated from upstairs. Today’s reports suggest that Tottenham could be on the cusp of signing Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka. His agent has been quoted as saying that the deal with Liverpool was executed badly and that Tottenham could have more chance of singing the player this summer.
‘I talked with Konoplyanka. Of course, he had regrets, but [the move to Liverpool] failed purely due to technical reasons.
‘Not criticising Liverpool but if I’m interested in a player, like they were in final days, I’d do it on or two weeks before [the window closes].
‘I’m talking with Tottenham president [Daniel Levy]. He wants Konoplyanka. We’re negotiating and we may even be close to signing a contract if Yevhen agrees.
The player has been on fire since the failed Liverpool bid in January and The Reds could well go back in for him in the summer. But these reports would suggest that Tottenham are now in pole position to sign Konoplyanka if they are serious about snaring.
Let’s see the lad in action. Tottenham fans – do you need another flying winger?
