It’s Friday people. that means we can dispense with the chatter and start talking stats again. Well, almost anyway. There is one matter pertaining to Tottenham and transfer talk to discuss first.
We mentioned yesterday how Tottenham have brought in loads of midfielders over the last couple years with mixed success. We could say that Sandro and Dembele are good squad members but Tottenham seem still to be searching for the swashbuckling man in the engine room that the team lacks – a leader and a dominating footballer.
Rumours today suggest that Tottenham are among a clutch of clubs to have shown an interest in Gus Poyet’s son. We understand that Sky Sports understands:
Sky Sports understands Charlton face a battle to keep hold of Diego Poyet, with a number of Premier League and foreign clubs tracking the midfielder.
Poyet’s potential has not gone unnoticed higher up the football pyramid with the likes Tottenham, West Ham and Fulham all keeping tabs on his progress.
He’s a really cosmopolitan lad this one. He’s born in Spain to a Uruguayan father and has played for England at U16 and U17 level. That means he’s still got the option to play for Spain, England or Uruguay – apparently his preference is for the latter. The report also suggests that even Barcelona have shown an interest in the player.
He’s only played 5 times for Charlton seniors, making his debut in the cup win over Oxford United in January. So he’s all potential at the moment. But the big boys obviously see something really special in the lad. He is yet to renew his contract with Charlton, which runs out at the end of the season. Perhaps his dad will tempt him into a stint at Sunderland? With the competition for his signature hotting up, you would imagine a club the size of Tottenham would have more chance of snaring him.
