So, what about it? All the English teams to qualify for The Champions League quarter finals? We know it sounds highly unlikely but at odds of around 817/1, depending on your source, we think quite few people will be having a cheeky couple of squid on this accumulator. Just to add a bit of edge to the week.
Arsenal – Arsenal possibly face the sternest challenge of all. While Manchester City have to turn around an identical deficit, against arguably the best club side of all time, Arsenal are taking on The European champions and possibly the form team of the competition.
While it would be difficult enough with their strongest eleven, Arsenal go into the game without Szczesny, Walcott, Ramsey, Gibbs and Wilshere. It’s a massive challenge but Arsenal have done well in Munich before and will try to play without pressure. An early goal and a 3-1 result isn’t inconceivable. Arsenal to qualify 16/1.
Manchester City – You can argue all you like but, for our money, Barcelona are the best ever. They are in a comparative rut at the moment, however, with a couple of shock results in the league. If ever there is a good time for Manchester City to play them it’s now.
Manchester City certainly have the firepower to win the game and they also have the fearlessness of a team new to the competition. We think that this one is going to go down to the wire and Manchester City’s chances are better than many are suggesting. Manchester City to qualify 14/1.
Chelsea – While Chelsea aren’t exactly forcing jaws to drop this season they are the model of professionalism. They are winning all the most important games and we fully expect them to get through this one, although it could be tight. Chelsea must be wary of their old friend Didier Drogba who loves the club but retains his desire for the win.
Manchester United – In a bizarre season for English clubs Manchester United are second favourites to go through behind Chelsea, despite trailing 2-0 from the first leg. Manchester United of old could be 3-0 up at half time against a side no better than Fulham. But we all know what Fulham did to Manchester United at Old Trafford just a few weeks back. Manchester United still have some great players but they can’t take anything for granted in a roller coaster season.
At combined odds of around 817/1 with thew bookies it’s got to be worth a punt to liven up your week of football. We are definitely going to have a squid on it.
