We always maintain that there is no smoke without fire. Of course, many transfer stories are completely made up, in order to get chins wagging and move newspapers.
But it’s those persistent rumours that you need to mindful of – the ones that keep rearing their beautiful or ugly heads on a periodical basis.
One such rumour, that refuses to lie down, is that of David Luiz leaving Chelsea. He’s been linked to Barcelona for ages now. It was also mooted that he had been offered as part of a swap deal for Wayne Rooney, when Chelsea wanted the England man last summer – as proof of the ‘no smoke without fire’ theory one Juan Mata was also reported to be used as a bargaining tool for that transfer.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wouldn’t admit to it publicly but we think that he has seen Luiz as surplus to requirements for a long time. There is no doubt that he’s a talented player but he is the sort of luxury that has never fitted comfortably into the Mourinho template.
Reports today suggest that Luiz will replace the departing legend, Carlos Puyol, at Barcelona in the summer.
Barcelona are expecting to sign Chelsea defender David Luiz at the end of the season as the Catalan giants look to replace the departing Carlos Puyol.
Puyol announced his intention to leave Barca during an emotional press conference on Tuesday, with the club captain told he does not have a future at the Nou Camp.
Nothing is official on this one but, if you want our opinion, it’s as good as a done deal. Luiz may not be the hardman centre-back that Chelsea require but he is the ball-playing Brazilian that Barcelona could use in their defence. He even looks like Puyol with his frizzy barnet.
Chelsea fans, would you be sad to see another highly talented player leave the club as Jose continues to replace guile with brawn?

Chelsea’s remaining fixtures should indicate Mourinho’s thinking. He stated at the beginning of the season that he only saw Luiz as a central defender and played him (in that position) extensively. Through ‘ squad rotation’ and injury Luiz found himself sidelined due to the performances of the Terry/Cahill partnership. Due to Luiz’s excellent relationship with Jose (they have become close) just as many Mourinho players do, Jose has found the Defensive Midfield role for the Brazilian. Most Chelsea fans already knew (as Benitez found out last season) that the DM role is Luiz’s best position in the Premier league. Jose played his strongest team against City at The Ethiad recently and it was the Matic/Luiz partnership in that game that caught the eye (together with Eden Hazards excellent game). I believe that Luiz will have an excellent World Cup with Brazil and I doubt whether Jose will want to sell him this summer. Roman will also want to hold onto one of his high profile ‘World’ players. There is certainly no love lost between Jose and Barca and so personally I don’t think Luiz will be going anywhere this Summer but cementing a DM spot for himself in this developing Jose team for seasons to come.

Its up to we fans to choose who does best in DM Luiz or Ramires. Unless Luiz does best in CD then he will stay.

Tottaly agree with Chelsea Alan, he has made valid point on this rubbish story that seems to be doing the rounds in hope that this will unsettle David Luiz. I have always said Luiz will be going no were, despite wht the media thinks Jose and Luiz have become very close and i see him him as our future captain. These rumors only happen when player go on international duty.

I totally agree with Alan, I think a lot of us Chelsea fans are getting fed up of stupid media stories about our players every time they go and play for their country’s. I think this shows lack of respect to Chelsea Fc. David Luiz for along time now seems to be the most player to be linked with either Barcelona, PSG, and Bayern Munic. What I don’t get thou is the media sometimes forgets to realize who Chelsea fc are owned by one of the most richest men in the world, and secondly one of top managers in the world. Jose has said on numerous occasions now that Luiz is not for sale, him and Luiz have become tight now and he knows what a great player Luiz can be, either in defence or as holding midfielder. Also Jose wants to build his new team around the likes of Luiz, Ramires, Oscar, Willian, and Hazard. + Roman Ambromovich won’t sell him either as Chelsea Fc see him our future captain.
