It’s going to be a running theme of the next transfer window. Who do Manchester United buy for their midfield. In fact it’s already got to comical levels as we have been asking the same question for about 5 years.

Players like, Hargreaves, Kleberson, Anderson and Cleverley have tried and failed to stake a claim as Manchester’s United midfield general since Keano left and Scholesy finally ran out of legs.

The only player to come in and do himself real justice in Manchester United’s recent history is Micheal Carrick – not exactly a midfield general but someone with a bit of everything. He’s been classy and consistent for Manchester United but, at 32, his time will also be up in the next couple of years.

So the conundrum continues. We will, at some stage soon, compile a list of all the midfielders that Manchester United have been linked to over the last year – but it’s going to take some time.

We can add at least another one to the list today as various reports are linking Manchester United with something old and something new.

The Guardian says:

After failing in his bids to sign Gareth Bale, Cesc Fábregas, Cristiano Ronaldo, Arturo Vidal, Paul Pogba and God El-Shaddai, Moyes set his Football Manager to novice level, and it came up with Harrison Reed of Southampton. Reed is 19, and has made five appearances for the club, four of those as substitute, but has orange hair like Paul Scholes.

And United may also get to sign Sami Khedira

We know all about Khedira. He wouldn’t be our first choice midfielder – he’s a little too conventional for us. Someone who excels through determination and work rate rather than technical genius. Still, Manchester United could probably use such a player, since Marouane Fellaini has so far been rendered a dud.

Harrison Reed looks like an interesting prospect. The latest item from the sensational Southampton production line made his debut last autumn and has been much-hyped since.

Let’s have a look at him in action.
