Manchester United : Very encouraging news

Good news for Manchester United

There has been so much doom and gloom around Manchester United so far this season that any good news should be cherished.

Although we are bound to see a positive spin from the Manchester United board, who are desperate to avoid the share price falling further through panic, it appears that revenues are up and a higher than average spend is expected in the summer on new players. Chief executive Ed Woodward said:

‘We once again achieved a record revenue quarter with strong contributions from our commercial and broadcasting businesses despite the current league position, which everyone from the Team Manager down has acknowledged is disappointing.

‘We continue to see meaningful opportunities to grow our commercial business and the popularity of football on TV is leading to continued broadcasting revenue growth – all of which bodes well for the long-term stability and financial strength of our business.

‘We are also very pleased to have added a world class player in Juan Mata to our squad, who has already made a positive impact.’

The Reuters bulletin said of the latest report:

Manchester United PLC : * Not seen any impact on the business from current on-pitch performance -conf
call * Still in talks with parties over new kit supply deal -conf call * Says spend on new players to be above average

He continued:

‘Historically we have done three sales and three purchases each year [on average] and it’s possible we would do more than that [this summer].’

Depending on what formation David Moyes goes with next season, you would imagine that Manchester United will look for a centre back, a left-fullback, a central midfielder and a winger.

Moyes has already spent over £65m on Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata but lots more will be needed if Manchester United are going to bring in top reinforcements in these positions. The outlay will, it has to be assumed, be partly compensated for by the departure of big earners such as Nani, Vidic, Evra and possibly others.

Whatever happens this season the summer look sas if it is going to be an exciting time for Manchester United fans.

For a moment I though your article was about Moyes getting the chop. But sadly I have to endure another game with and his flop coaches to sink Man U further into the major FAIL history books! Last nights display against a top side along with the same result against the bottom league side on Saturday has left me conviced, without a shadow of a doubt that Moyes will end united’s season well below top 4 and in a position he is used to and has always aspired to, 8th or 7th. I really don’t understand the situation that the Board and Glazers are allowing to deteriorate even further with every games that they continue to allow Moyes to lead. I have however decided that while I will still continue to watch all EPL games, I will no longer acquire any Man U item that requires me to part with my money as I see no reason why I need to fund an idiots paycheque that has turned a brilliant giant of a club into ‘easy pickings’ for every team, home or away.

Ewuga and the rest of you, please endeavour to communicate in English and cut out all these annoying abbreviations and grammatical blunders. This is an English forum not Ibo or pidgin.
