Manchester United have made a magical signing but it hasn’t really addressed the most gaping holes in their squad. Many to most Manchester United fans believe that a central midfielder was the priority for the January transfer window.
With 3 days still to go before the end of January there is hope that a deal can still be reached for a really good player. The other area of concern with lots of fans is the left back position. Although few would doubt the quality of Patrice Evra over the last seven years at Manchester United it is becoming apparent that a replacement will be needed sooner or later.
Evra has been leaving holes in the defence on several occasions this season and new blood is being scouted for that position. One player who was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer and January is Real Madrid left back Fabio Coentrao.
Many believed that a deal would be done as soon as the window opened but Manchester United’s interest in the player seems to have waned. News today suggests that he might end up somewhere else other than Manchester United.
A Bola says that AC Milan have made contact with the player (via Google Translate):
The general director of Milan broached the subject during the presentation of Essien and said even that was not ‘happy’ – Coentrao does not come out and will continue to wear white, said Galliani.
The fact that the player is not already wearing the red of Manchester United tells us that a deal may no longer be done for the player. Reports over the last few days have suggested that Manchester United’s interest in Southampton left back Luke Shaw is intensifying and he does seem to be a much better long-term solution for the club.
Manchester United fans should Moyes try to buy Coentrao if Shaw can’t be signed in January
