Tottenham: Top 2 transfer targets this week?

Two stars linked

Tottenham have been very quiet in the window so far but we can still see a move happening this week. Traditionally, the last week of any transfer window is by far and away the busiest. Until then there is a lot of posturing but, by the final week of the window, clubs are aware of what they need to bring in and get rid of.

Tottenham may look to add to their midfield and forward lines before this week is out. Last week we reported on the potential of Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin coming to the club. His name has been regularly referenced in the sports pages in January as Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea have headed a list of clubs who are apparently interested in his signature.

But Tottenham have made a late surge with a lot of the sports pages for the signature of the Colombian in January. Talksport says of the interest:

A whole host of clubs have been linked with a move for the Colombian midfielder in January. Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus to name but a few have all been rumoured to be interested but it now appears Spurs are frontrunners for his signature. Will Baldini secure the deal while he is out in Italy?

The same source says that Tottenham could also make a dash for Barcelona wide man Ibrahim Afellay:

After returning to fitness at the Nou Camp, the Dutchman could be set for a loan switch as he looks to kick-start his career. Tottenham are reportedly interested in the 27-year-old, who they also courted in 2010. A temporary deal could be a shrewd move by Tim Sherwood.

Injury really has blighted the career of the Dutchman whom we felt was going to be a real star of the European stage. Also 27 years of age he is surely now primed for a prolonged period of first team football.

We think that both of these players would improve Tottenham and be in or around the first XI. There is still time for much movement in the transfer market and we feel that Tottenham could do a deal.

Let’s have a look at Afellay in action. Tottenham fans are either of these two, or both, good enough for the first team?
