It’s been a crazy week for Manchester United in the transfer market. Although rumours were flying around left, right and centre throughout January, about who United might bring in, none of the prospective signings seemed to be available. Pogba, Gundogan, Reus, Vidal, Marchisio. All apparently unavailable or not interested in an immediate move to Manchester United.
Manchester United had the war chest ready but you just couldn’t see where a signing was coming from. Then Mata happened – noone thought it would – and, all of a sudden, the heavens are threatening to open on Manchester United’s winter business.
David Moyes has apparently followed up the signing of Mata by preparing a bid for the superb youngster Luke Shaw. Hallelujah! United fans will sing. Moyes moving decisively in the transfer market at last. Make no mistake, Shaw is the ideal man for the job at Manchester United. Young, hungry and replete with quality.
The Daily Mail, amongst others, said earlier:
Manchester United are considering a £23million offer for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw following the completion of Juan Mata’s £37m move from Chelsea.
A bid is set to go in over the weekend as United look to beat Chelsea to the 18-year-old’s signature.
The deal for Mata is set to break their record transfer fee, £30.75million paid for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008, but David Moyes is hungry for more before the window shuts on January 31.
The Mirror says that a bid has already been made:
Manchester United boss David Moyes has made a £22.5million bid for Southampton’s teenage left-back Luke Shaw.
Chelsea have been favourites with the bookmakers for Shaw’s signature for the majority of January. But with this news SkyBet have changed their odds. They have pushed Chelsea out to 2/1 and have Manchester United as 4/5 odds on to sign the player in January.
Whoever gets this guy will have a major player on their hands for the next decade. A superb athlete with defensive solidity, twinned with an insatiable appetite to get forward, he’s a swashbuckling full back with a great touch and delivery. At 18, he already looks at home in The Premier League, with 44 appearances under his belt.
Chelsea had looked frontrunners on this one but Manchester United are equally keen and there is a growing feeling that a deal will not wait until the summer. Let’s see the maestro in action.

The lad is progressing well at Southampton and i now believe he is ready to mature up at Manchester United. At a tender age of 18, he has been giving some eye catching performances for a while at the Saints. Credit should go to the saints coaching staff. Now, i hope we manage to thrash a deal out for him this transfer window. The reported £22.5 million offer would be “money well spent” because one day this lad would be worth £50 million. I say pay £25 million straight up now. I hope we sign Shaw and a central midfielder by next week, if Moyes manages to pull this off it won’t just be a terrific winter window but a BIG warning to all the premiership!!

What a shame for Southampton to lose one of their home grown academy products to a rich spending club. If he does make the move I hope it works our better for him than it has for Zaha. It’s a shame FFP doesn’t stop the smaller clubs having to sell their bright stars like this. I hope he developes more for a couple of years and then Southampton get more money for him from one of the European greats like Barcelona, Real or Bayern.

Moyes inherited ageing players from Sir Alex Ferguson. Going back to the end of last season, you will agree with me that, the players was not good enough, I was expecting the new coach to signed new players in exchange to old & aged players, If he has done that, He wouldn’t have been in this type of situation. Anyway, Mr Moyes kindly bring at least more three players. Thanks.

They could sign 4 new players and still would not have the squad of man city. That lump of wood called moyes look like a startled cat when introducing Mata to the press. Mata 24 million max and moanrinho reckons yoonited are not a threat.
