After expecting so much from this transfer window it has actually turned out to be a bit of a damp squib so far. But it seems to be a trend, over the last few windows particularly, that managers and clubs leave their transfer business until the last minute – it appears to be a question of who blinks first between the buying and selling clubs.

Everton have done some business already this month, signing Aiden McGeady from Spartak Moscow. But with their main striker ending his loan period at the end of the season there is a pressing need to add to the forward line.

Last week we linked Arsenal with a move for Michy Batshuayi, the talented young striker from Standard Liege. But even then there are reports that Everton were sniffing around as well and latest reports suggest that they could now be at the head of the queue for his signature.

The Daily Mail says:

Everton are pushing ahead with plans to sign highly-rated Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi this month.

With Romelu Lukaku due to return to Chelsea ahead of next season, Toffees manager Roberto Martinez has already identified Standard Liege forward as his successor.

Everton plan to sign the 20-year-old this month and loan him to Standard’s rivals Anderlecht.

The youngster has already scored 16 goals for Standard this season. He’s scored 31 goals in 76 appearances for club and 5 in 10 for the Belgium U21s – a fantastic return for one so young – this guy has a natural instinct for goals.

With lots of other clubs reportedly on the prowl Everton will be doing extremely well if they do manage to get the player in January.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action and, Everton fans, does this guy boil your potatoes?
