How Manchester United could line up by February

The dream scenario for United come feb?

Hey, Manchester United fans, it’s not that bad! The new manager has made everyone feel a little uneasy but, many are still hopeful that this is just the rough bedding in period, predicted by lots of pundits, when Sir Alex first stepped down.

The fact remains, that when Manchester United get their key players back from injury they will have an exceedingly strong nucleus, that simply needs a little embellishment.

Whether David Moyes’ training methods are to blame for the injury list or not, any club in the league would have seriously struggled if they had suffered so many key injuries.

When fit, Manchester United have 7 players who are, or could become, world class. De Gea, Rafael, Jones, Carrick, Januzaj, Rooney and RvP will hopefully all play a massive part in the second half of the season. Added to those players, Manchester United can still call on fading, yet majestic, players such as Rio Ferdinand (the best ball-playing centre-back in United history – we would play him until he’s 40), Vidic and Evra.

Manchester United may have to wait until the summer to make serious waves in the transfer market. But we think that several future worldies are already potentially available if Manchester United are prepared to pay the going rate.

Luke Shaw should be snapped up, whatever the price. At just 18 he’s certain to be an England regular. He’s a solid defender and great athlete. But he’s also got that buccaneering style going forward that would suit Manchester United perfectly. Even at £25m he would represent a bargain as you are talking about someone who could play in that defence for maybe 15 years. It’s a no-brainer. The idea of him learning from the master (Evra) and seamlessly evolving into a first teamer makes so much sense. Moyes would be crazy to let Chelsea get him.

Another powerhouse central defender is required. Our first choice would have been Geoffrey Kondogbia (now at Monaco) for his power and ball playing skills but Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala also looks like a brilliant prospect – with Porto out of The Champions League he too would be available for the right price.

Ross Barkley is going to be the best midfielder in Britain and if Moyes had not wasted 27.5m on Fellaini in the summer he could perhaps have already signed the lad. Again he would cost a fortune but would be worth his weight in diamonds and lead Manchester United for the next 10 years – he’s that good. We would buy him even if the asking price went to £40m. Because he’s going to be a star of The Premier League for years.

United are also desperate for a winger of real class. Zaha has been overlooked and Januzaj isn’t a natural winger – though he can do a job there for now. But a player like Andros Townsend or Lucas Moura could add dynamism and verve to the Manchester United team.

Manchester United clearly aren’t going to sign all these players in January. But if they could they would be laughing all the way to The Champions League positions and a much brighter future. So here’s our dream team for February. An asphyxiating array of power, pace, craft and graft.

I’m sorry but Rio is not up to it any longer, so we would be much better off with Vidic, Evans or even Smalling to partner Jones. However, I think Jones also does a fantastic job in midfield.

I am in doubt wether Shaw, Barkley or Townsend would be available, whatever money you put on the table. Everton sure won’t do us any favours, neither would spurs…
