An unlikely link?

A sensational run of results in the autumn preceded a somewhat dodgy December in The Premier League for Southampton. They weren’t embarrassed by any team and got a highly creditable home draw against Manchester City who, for our money, are easily the best team in the league right now.

Instead Southampton have largely had to put up with draws and narrow defeats this winter. But we have great faith in Mauricio Pochettino’s football philosophy and we don’t think that the results represent Southampton being ‘found out’ in terms of their playing style. They have had a lot of tough games in a short period and the results perhaps reflect that, while the first team is really good quality, much work is still required to strengthen the squad. Heckers, most of the teams in the top half of the division could put out 2 or even 3 competitive teams right now, such is the strength of the top Premier League squads. So, in that respect, Southampton are still currently batting above their average.

Pochettino will certainly look to strengthen Southampton in January and in a rather unlikely link, bookmaker SkyBet have got Southampton as favourites to sign old boy Nathan Dyer, despite his recent ankle injury. When Dyer got injured it looked like a bad one but, thankfully, it’s not as serious as first thought and it was reported by The South Wales Evening Post on December 19th that:

And though Swansea are still waiting for a final verdict on the extent of Dyer’s problem, they are now optimistic that he will be out for weeks rather than months.

Dyer played 56 times for Southampton between 2005-2009 but the 26 year old has really matured at Swansea into a flying machine with a quality final ball.

It’s certainly a long shot but, at 14/1, Southampton are the best placed side to re-sign Dyer during this window.

Not only has Pochettino already denied we’ll be looking to sign people in January, but never again will that thieving midget get any where near a Southampton shirt, unless he steals it off a Saints player after yet another victory against Swansea….

How bitter are you give the boy a break it was a long time ago he’s matured at Swansea into a quality player, why would he even contemplate going back to Southampton fair play you’ve had a good first half of the season let’s see if you can carry through for a full season when the vultures from the big clubs come and take you’re best players you’d be begging for dyer then when you’re midfield are playing at old Trafford or Stamford Bridge for their wages !

Lol, how unrealistic are you? Southampton have grown into a club who can KEEP their players – Lallana, now fully fledged England international: stayed with us in Lg 1 turning down top sides, why would he leave now? Shaw: on a 5 year contract, and has says he wants to stay with us. Lambert – rumour has it he’s got a contract with us until his retirement. Southampton might not be competing for Europe YET, but a top 10 finish is likely. We’re building a self sustainable squad, a lot of which have been playing together since they were 8. We have an excellent recipe for success, no debt, and very very strong finances. Southampton can grow to match our players’ aspirations. Sorry, now what was that about Dyer?
