Manchester United are on the ropes and the general consensus seems to be that they are particularly struggling in midfield and in the full back positions.

Patrice Evra has put in a magical shift for the club over the last 7 years. He still offers a real threat going forward but, increasingly, he’s getting caught out in defence.

Many Manchester United fans are hoping that David Moyes will pull out all the stops to sign Southampton’s wonder kid Luke Shaw. Competition for his signature will be fierce but a bid of £25m would surely get tongues wagging.

But, in an interesting development, another Southampton player has been made bookie favourite to join Manchester United this winter. Adam Lallana’s progress over the last year has been sensational. The 25 year old has been with Southampton for 13 years but has blossomed into an attacking midfielder of real potency over the last couple of seasons. He’s even played a couple of times for England, such has been his rise to prominence in The Premier League.

SkyBet have installed Manchester United as favourites for his signature this January. At odds of 5/1 Manchester United were already ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal in the betting for Lallana’s signature. The odds have since come in again to 7/2 in the last 48 hours.

With 43 goals in 215 games for Southampton Lallana has a good scoring record. He’s a busy and technically adept player but whether he would noticeably improve Manchester United’s first team or be another decent squad player is debatable.

Let’s see him in action. United fans, is he good enough to change the club’s fortunes?
