So Jose Mourinho has told reporters that he is happy with the squad that he currently possesses. This would apparently pour cold water on the idea that he is in the market for a top striker in the winter window.
But come on! We all know the Chelsea boss too well by now don’t we? We aren’t saying that he is liar. Far from it. He just chooses his words like a chess grand master chooses his next move. He’s a supreme tactician.
Yesterday we quoted the Telegraph who reckon that Chelsea have kicked off the January madness with a giant bid of £50m for Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain. After a massive move to Napoli from Real Madrid in the summer you might imagine he would be in Italy for some time.
But, such has been his form at his new club (9 goals in 15 games), that Chelsea have reportedly come knocking with a £50m bid. The powerhouse striker was deemed surplus to requirements at Real Madrid despite scoring goals on a consistent basis. But he’s proved his worth and ability to adapt to different leagues.
Accordingly Chelsea have been installed as favourites to sign the brilliant forward with bookmaker SkyBet. The bookie have made Chelsea 9/2 favourites for his signature and we feel that this story has legs. But Higuain nearly moved to Arsenal in the summer and we certainly would rule out another bid from them. Arsenal desperately need another top class striker as a catalyst for their supreme midfield and they clearly have money to spend.
Whether it be Arsenal or Chelsea, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if he ended up moving again, just months after signing for Napoli.
Arsenal and Chelsea fans, is this guy worth £50m?
