There we go! Finally the silly season has kicked off and one of the usual suspects, Chelsea, have graced us with a mega bid.
The Telegraph reported late last night that Chelsea have made a £50m bid for Napoli’s hitman Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinian, who only moved to Napoli from Real Madrid in the summer, has been on fire in Italy and Chelsea have made their move at the start of the window, with every intention of doing a deal.
Napoli have not given any encouragement to Chelsea in their efforts to land Higuaín and insist the Argentine, who played under Mourinho at Real Madrid, is not for sale.
Higuaín has scored nine goals in 16 league games since moving from Spain to Italy in the summer.
That may not deter Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who agrees the lack of goals from strikers is the major weakness in the side.
We have long held the opinion that Chelsea would do a big bit of business for a striker in the window, and this latest move shows that the purse strings will not be tightened at Chelsea just yet, despite them potentially having FIFA FairPlay issues with their budget.
Whether the player would want to move countries again, just months after moving to Italy, is highly debatable but the size of the bid shows that Chelsea are serious in their bid and feel that they can do a deal.
We shall keep you updated. Meantime let’s see the dazzler in action. CLICK FOR HIGUAIN.
