Southampton have undoubtedly been the success story of The Premier league so far this season. They currently sit in eighth position in the Prem but have tasted top four positions during the campaign.
One of the reasons mooted for their slight dip of late is the poor form of hapless keeper Artur Boruc. You have to feel sorry for goalkeepers at times. While any outfield player can make a mistake and get away with it, goalkeeping errors regularly end with a change to the scoreline and pour lava-hot scrutiny all over the culprit.
Boruc’ worst indignity arguably came in the Arsenal game at The Emirates, where he tried to dribble around Olivier Giroud. We all know the outcome. Perhaps through lack of alternatives, or commendable integrity, Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino stuck with Boruc until he was injured last week. However, the Southampton boss will surely look to strengthen his keeping options in January.
One name that has been thrown into the hat of late is the brilliant Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar. Beautifully nicknamed ‘The Dreamcatcher’ Cesar is a veteran of many different leagues and has always performed to a very high standard – a safe pair of hands in the strictest sense. But he is currently warming the bench at QPR as Robert Green has been preferred between the sticks of late.
Southampton may turn to Queens Park Rangers’ Brazil international Julio Cesar in answer to a goalkeeping crisis.
The Saints will be without first choice Artur Boruc for at least another month because of a hand injury, and his veteran deputy Kelvin Davis will not be available until the New Year.
We believe that this one is an absolute no-brainer for Southampton. If Cesar is indeed available then he is an obvious choice for several Premier League clubs in January. The Saints boss should pull out all the stops to try and sign this guy.
Let’s see him in action. Southampton fans would you welcome Cesar with open arms?

Poorly researched article. Boruc is one of the reasons for the great start Southampton have made, notwithstanding the ridiculous error at Arsenal. No way they’d be looking for a new first choice keeper….
