Despite spending so much money on players in the summer you imagine Tottenham will be active again in the winter transfer market.

With injuries to key defenders Tottenham will surely prioritise the signing of one or two players for the back line. But goalscoring has also been an obvious issue for the side this term.

They will perhaps be on the look out for another striker in the winter window. One player, who has seemingly been linked with Tottenham for time immemorial, is Brazilian international Damiao.

Tottenham have been connected with the player so many times over the last year and a half but recent reports suggest that he’s on his way to Santos.

The Metro says:

Tottenham are set to miss out on long-term target Leandro Damiao after his club Internacional accepted an offer from Santos.

Spurs have been chasing Brazil international Damiao for the last three transfer windows, and were expected to try again in January.

But Santos are now in pole position to bag the striker, with Internacional accepting their £12million bid this week.

There may well be substance to these reports, but if Tottenham really did want the player, surely they would have met the £12million asking price? Having spent £30 million on Eric Lamela in the summer the club clearly aren’t frightened by large transfer fees and this would be well within their budget.

So perhaps Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has gone cold on the player rather than losing out to Santos.

Tottenham fans, do you think that Damiao will come to represent the one that got away or is he not quite good enough to make a serious impression on The Premier League?

Let’s see the player in action again. CLICK FOR DAMIAO
