Ahhhh. It’s being one of those delightful weeks for Everton. Whatever other obstacles Everton fans have faced this week their passage has been eased by the wonderful win away at Manchester United.
We are, by no means, talking about some kind of smash and grab victory either. Everton outplayed Manchester United for swathes of the game and you could argue that they fully merited their victory. Ross Barkley, in particular, drove his team on quite brilliantly. For one so young he really took the game by the scruff of the neck.
There is a theory that Everton are better off without Moyes and Manchester United are worse with him. A couple of weeks ago we asked Everton fans if they preferred Moyes or Martinez at the helm. Perhaps we should now be asking Manchester United fans the same question.
Whatever your thoughts on this it’s hard to debate the idea that Roberto Martinez has had a really positive effect on this team. Everton look like a genuinely good passing side now and the future is surely very bright.
But Martinez is clearly not happy to rest on his laurels as reports today suggest that the Everton boss is looking to spend serious money in the January window.
Martinez set to splash cash in January as Everton boss eases injury nightmare
‘We are going to use the window in January to try to help the team because we lost two players for the long term,’ said the Spaniard.
‘Arouna and Darron are two very important players for us so we will try to see if we can identify one or two players that can help the group.
‘We have been working hard to identify who can help the group and that is what we are looking for in January.’
So a striker and a midfielder may be on the cards for Everton this winter. But they keep getting linked with wingers also. So perhaps 3 might come in in January.
Everton fans, who would you like to see at the club?

No Harry. He wouldn’t. I’ve missed 2 Ireland home matches in the last 10 years. I’ve seen him play countless times. McCarthy and Coleman always looked like players who were going to come good. McGeady is the most infuriating player I’ve ever watched. No end product. Can’t cross a ball and only looks good against nonsense teams. Just a show pony. Not good enough for Everton in my opinion. We’d find better elsewhere.
