Manchester United will probably be looking for a left back to supplement their squad over the coming months.
But surely they need to concentrate mainly on the centre of their team. Most notably, the attacking midfield berth, which hasn’t been filled since Paul Scholes departed the scene. Scholes played in a deeper role towards the end of his career but he was still a marvellous passer of the ball and someone who unlocked the door for Manchester united time and again.
This Manchester United team simply doesn’t have a midfielder of that style. Shinji Kagawa could you do a good job in the centre of the park, in our opinion, but he definitely doesn’t have the sort of passing range of Scholes.
It’s going to be a very difficult task, but if a player does come in, then it must be a central midfielder. Let’s have a look at some of the options:
Ilkay Gundogan
This guy is a total genius. He is the sort of player that would fit in perfectly at Manchester United because he just gets on with the job with understated class. Just like a Giggs or Scholes he doesn’t seek constant limelight he just wants to play in a winning team. A perfect vehicle between midfield and attack. Great passing and movement off the ball. Gundogan is a wonderful player.
Marco Reus
Until recently we were firmly of the belief that Manchester United should only sign one player from Dortmund – the aforementioned Gundogan. But, having seen Reus up close and personal a few times of late, we think that he would also make a really top signing for Manchester United. He may not have the subtlety of Gundogan but he scores more goals and is perhaps a more attacking version of his team mate. He loves to run with the ball and always has his head up. A real swashbuckler.
Ander Herrera
It’s a very strange situation with this guy. Since the furore surrounding his transfer to Manchester United in the summer he is hardly had a kick for Atletic Bilbao. Whether his head has gone because of the transfer talk, or he is being punished by his club for treachery, we don’t know. But we will know lots more about whether Manchester United are still interested come January.
Cesc Fabregas
Call us crazy but we think there is still a chance he might end up Manchester United. Just a few days ago he told the Spanish media that he feels he’s not first choice at Barcelona any more. This guy is a born winner and possibly the best of all the midfielders on this list – he just wants to play football.
Sami Khedira
We genuinely felt that David Moyes was the right man for this job. A year before Manchester United appointed him we wrote about Moyes being the outstanding candidate for the position. But if he buys another battling midfielder, in the Fellaini mould, we really will believe that he has lost the plot. Khedira? No thanks mate.

Dnt see a thing wrong with signing khedira.he infact is d type of midfielder united need. It is about need not guile. He,Gundogan or fabregas will be fantastic for united more than iniesta or any other on the list
