Everton were linked with scores of midfielders throughout the summer and one of those was FC Porto midfielder Fernando.
The 26-year-old Brazilian has been linked to many top clubs over the last year but various news outlets were pretty sure that Everton were at the head of the queue in the last few days of the transfer window. The Mirror said:
Everton have failed in a bid to bring in £15m Porto midfielder Fernando – the deal that was supposed to open the door for Marouane Fellaini to join Manchester United.
Since then Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester United and other clubs have been linked, at different times, with a bid for the player.
But The Guardian, amongst others, reckons today that Everton will be back in for the player as soon as the winter window opens.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has done a sterling job since he joined Porto in 2007 but he has never played for Brazil as a full international. That hasn’t perturbed the long list of suitors that are supposedly interested in his signature. The Guardian says:
But Martínez ain’t the only one casting an eye on the one who wants to be castaway, so too are cabal of Italian clubs from Juventus to Napoli to Internazionale.
Let’s have a look at him in action. Everton fans, let us know if you think Fernando could play in a successful line up alongside James McCarthy, or whether that would make the team too defensive-minded.
