Tottenham getting closer to signing top Premier League target?

Some top quality cover is required for Roberto Soldado at Tottenham

It’s pretty obvious that Tottenham now have a good squad. There are fewer areas of weakness than they have had in a long time. But it’s also clear that they need some more strikers.

At least one more player that can guarantee goals anyway. Roberto Soldado has done a decent job for Tottenham since signing in the summer. But, just like Olivier Giroud at Arsenal, some top quality cover is required. Someone who can push the first choice striker all the way and provide constant competition.

Without any official word from the Tottenham manager there have been rumours all summer about Tottenham wanting to sign Mexican striker Javier Hernandez from Manchester United.

Hernandez hasn’t been first choice at Manchester United for over a year now and he recently retweeted an article which suggested that he wasn’t happy at the club at an understudy.

He’s a very good player and a brilliant finisher. Whether he is still happy at United is debatable. Surely Tottenham would be interested in signing him if they could. But, Hernandez would have to ask himself if he would simply be in the same situation at Tottenham, with Roberto Soldado as the obvious first choice striker.

Anyway The Daily Express says

JAVIER HERNANDEZ has given Tottenham a boost in their pursuit of the his services after the Manchester United striker retweeted a story linking him with an exit from Old Trafford.

Hernandez is a January target for Spurs, despite David Moyes’ insistence that he will not be allowed to leave.

However, ‘Chicharito’ has suggested he is intent on quitting the Champions after giving credibility to quotes from Mexico team-mate Carlos Vela claiming the hitman wants out.

Manchester United surely wouldn’t want to lose a striker of this quality and whether the player actually wants to leave remains to be seen. So we’re going to say that this one probably won’t happen.

Tottenham fans do you think that the Hernandez deal is a goer?

Whilst Spurs undoubtedly need striker back-up, surely we should be looking to add someone with a different profile. Having already got Soldado and Defoe, and bearing in mind our failure to date to “play through” teams, would it not make more sense to sign someone with good physical presence, such as Benteke, rather than another “shorty” such as Hernandez or Pato??

Johnny Spot on only Chiriches looks the part so far and possible Capoue in is few games looks a composing figure. The rest have started good and gone backwards in there confidants caused by the speed and intensity of the manic pressing in the Premiership. Why would any striker come to Spurs and watch Soldado costing 26 million age 28 not score we have Defoe Ady one scoring in UFA and one on the naughty step cant get a game. The most startling thing is we have only scored nine goals yet stuck to a rigid one striker even 0-0 at Everton Defoe Kane stayed benched

Glenn is totally right. The other two comments are idiocy. Paulinho has been super. We’ve barely seen Lamela yet. Chadli is a decent squad player. Capoue looks great. Soldado has a proven record and just needs the right service. Chiriches looks v promising. Eriksen clearly has talent and just needs time to adjust to the prem.

We’ve hugely improved our squad, sold the most expensive player in the world, need time to gel and still have had our best start to a prem season ever, record number of clean sheets and unbeaten in the cups. Yet you still aren’t happy! Blimey
