Malaga’s sporting director Mario Husillos recently revealed to Spanish radio station Marca that Tottenham manager AVB made a bid for their talented young midfielder Isco during the summer. The Portuguese boss, who also failed in a last ditch bid for Porto’s Joao Moutinho, is clearly still on the lookout for a top playmaker and Isco fits the bill.
The Malaga spokesman said that Tottenham came in but failed.
‘Tottenham tried to sign him before the market closed. He remains ours and with his clause, no-one has activated that’
This release clause apparently stands at 21m Euros. Although Malaga are owned by mega rich Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani , their recent financial problems have been well documented. However, they seem very keen on holding on to the player. These could simply be sound bytes designed to command a good transfer fee, or they might actually want to build a team around him.
“He is playing football in his home country at a club that suits his style. He has tremendous potential and room for growth that could lead to him becoming a full Spain international.”
“We believe that the best place for him to do that is Malaga. We want to enjoy him for many years without impeding his growth.”
If Tottenham are to snare the 20 year old, who has been labelled ‘the next Xavi’ (yawn), then it seems that they will have to break their transfer record in the process.
