Despite Chelsea’s exciting start to the season, and some new additions that are already making the mouth water, there have been persistent murmurs about more summer arrivals. As many expected, Eden Hazard has exploded onto the English scene and just looks like a world beater already. He’s got to be one of the favourites for player of the season, even after one game. But let’s not forget Oscar, who also came on and sparkled. He runs quicker with the ball than most players do without it. Many pundits were saying before the season that the title race was between the Manchester clubs, but this does a huge disservice to Chelsea. Oscar and Hazard will rip teams to shreds this season.
Nevertheless, the feeling from within the club is that Chelsea need to strengthen further, at right-back and up front.
Various reports this morning are suggesting a deal for Cesar Azpilicueta is all but done. The 22 year old Marseille right back is keen on a move. He is quoted in the French press as saying
“I have great respect for the OM and its fans. But if my sale will help the club everyone will have something to be happy about.”
As for a striker The Daily Mail, amongst others, is writing about an imminent deal for Edinson Cavani from Napoli. Roberto Di Matteo is quoted in the article as saying:
‘We’re probably a bit light in attacking positions.’
The stumbling block continues to be his wage demands but Chelsea seem now to prefer a deal for the Uruguayan than Porto’s Hulk, who has also been linked to the club for most of the summer. We think it’s almost certain that one of them will join before the window closes.
