Despite a heroic effort by the little magician to drag his side past Spain and into the EURO 2012 quarter finals Luka Modric is now heading home from the championships. In what was easily his best performance of the competition on Monday evening Modric made made use of his myriad talents, threading beautiful passes, dribbling forward dangerously and offering defensive aid to his team during the, more sparce than usual but still fairly frequent, waves of Spanish attack.
Croatia were excellent and scarcely deserved to go out but, now it’s over, Modric can concentrate on his future. He will surely now be heading for a beach but that shouldn’t delay the start of serious negotiations for his signature.
There is a feeling, one way or another, Luka will be leaving Tottenham this summer. The most recent speculation has pointed towards a move to Real Madrid but now is surely the time for Manchester United to test the water with a serious bid.
Unless money, and the lack of, really has become a serious issue at Old Trafford then I see absolutely no reason why Manchester United shouldn’t be making an official bid for his services in the next few days.
Most agree that Manchester United need exactly this type of player. A top class midfielder who can defend and attack. Modric’ age is not a concern. And he wouldn’t be asking for £250,000 a week in wages. In other words, he should be just about affordable for a club of Manchester United’s size.
So what are you waiting for Sir Alex? If an opening bid isn’t made for this megastar in the making then surely Manchester United fans everywhere will start to seriously question whether there is any money in the kitty, or whether the dastardly Glazers have squandered all the cash reserves on interest payments, as feared. The next few weeks could define Manchester United’s future.

You do realise that every big City player, Aguero, tevez, Nasri, Touré all will leave city as soon as one of the Spanish Giants wants them. they don’t care about the club they just like sucking money out of it. City will be exactly where Chelski are in a few years and United will still be winning trophies and setting the pace in the premier league so sod off you sh!ty Twonk

Wait another 44 yrs before u talk. I premier league title and citeh are the best team in the world, what a joke. UTD without a single trophy are still the leading brand in world football. UTD 25yrs 1 manager +30 trophies CITEH 20+ managers in 25yrs and 1 title in 44yrs , CITEH is and will always be in UTD’s shadow.

Modric is not a megastar, he is no magician so learn something about football. We already have legends/world class/top class midfielders in Scholes, Giggs, Kagawa, Cleverley, Carrick and Fletcher. We do not want Modric and that is supported by never bidding for him, the signings of Kagawa and Powell aswell the failed bid for Hazard, stop believing everything a newspaper tell you. There is no money issues at MANUTD so grow up and many Utd fans do not want this overrated player. Modric has never hurt us so why waste money on him. I bet you believe the world class Nani is leaving dont ya feller – he’s not, just paper bs. Stop buying into all the paper bs and get a clue. Modric is of no interest to MANUTD and Sir Alex Ferguson. Time to give Tunnicliffe and Petrucci a chance in first team. Modric is not good enough and not wanted by Utd so face it, we have no money probs, we just dont want him so grow up.

PMSL….Scholes and Giggs WERE world class in their prime, I think you’ll find they are no longer of that standard. As for Cleverley, Carrick and Fletcher being world class???…I’m sure Barca and Madrid are lining up their huge bids as I type!! You Utd fans need to pull your heads out of your @rses…you DONT have the money otherwise Sniedjer would be a Utd player now. Your team lacked so much last year that its going to take more than a few average signings to turn you around.

What makes you think he wouldnt be asking for £250k a week? If a player is sold for close to £50m, he will demand wages in line with the fee. Do you think he is some kind of idiot? He’s almost 27, this will be the last big contract he signs.
It is very obvious, Utd cannot afford him. I suspect Spurs will sell him, but sadly it’ll be to one of the new rich sugar daddy clubs that will have destoyed all interest in the game within a couple of years. City, PSG or Madrid. Maybe even Malaga. Frankly, who cares? They’re all the same – rich men’s play things. Cant blame the likes of Modric for wanting to stick his nose in one of the troughs on offer
TommyHarmer
Jun 20, 2012 at 7:41 am
Here we go with the same lot of old rubbish …….. firstly Modric has FOUR years remaining on his contract and so his sale is not dependent on whether Man U want to bid but whether Spurs want to sell. Secondly, Man U have long been overtaken in the flush-with-cash stakes and probably couldn’t match the last figure offered by Chelski of £42M. Clearly the price won’t be going down – Modric outperformed Iniesta and Xavi against Spain. Spurs screwed £31M out of Man U for sulkalot; God knows what they will demand for Modric, and carry on demanding for at least another two years if they wish to. It will come down to Spurs increasing weariness at repeating a year-on-year battle with Modric; the readiness of Spanish clubs to outbid one another, and the availability of a good-enough replacement for Spurs. Whatever, he WON’T be going to the red fairies any time soon. Wonder when he’ll ask for a transfer from Croatia – are THEY good enough for him?

Modric is head and shoulders above all the United midfielders. He is exactly what we’re looking for. But fergie will give us the usual bullshit about “no value” while Citeh, Real and Barca keep buying the best players and we carry on buying Bebe Obertan Tosic etc. We are no longer a big team, just a club that makes money for Glazers while fergie and Gill carry on telling us how good they are.

manu not offering enough that’s a fact!! if modric goes then it’ll be for more than the pathetic 22 mill offered by man u & i think you’re certianly deluding yourself & you’re in the minority if you think modric isn’t as good or better than those players mentioned in manu’s MF.
i suppose though it’s a way of masking the disapointment of finally realising that manu are no longer the top club to play for in the PL..

Jun 20, 2012 at 8:13 am
Plenty of Utd fans don’t see where he fits into the team, they’ve been burned buying from Levy before and can’t afford to get into a bidding war if he does become available. Oh and he’s got 4 years left on his contract and Levy is reportedly refusing to sell him to Man U or Chelsea. Whilst I do think he’ll go this Summer, it will be on Spurs’ terms and that means a move in Eng;and is unlikely.
Ray
Jun 20, 2012 at 8:55 am
Same bullshit different day. The red nonces up North are very deluded and that includes the random wannabe journalists that are in Fergusons pocket.
Plain fact of the matter is that Luka Modric is the property of THFC and with FOUR years remaining on his current contract means that Daniel Levy very much holds all the aces and only he will determine Modrics future. We all witnessed his determination last Summer when he sent the Russian away with a flee in his ear and put Modric firmly back in his pram. He could very well do the same this Summer alternatively he could decide to cash in on Modric and if he does chaps, you can rest assure that it wont be to a competitor in the EPL. Gone are the Berbatov, days of selling our top stars at home so move on besides, the only offer made for Modric this time was by the low class rag namely the sun so called newspaper.

well well well here we go again, more united fans coming on here chattin crap about big united, listen modric is a class midfielder, even tho he wasnt on top of his game last season he was still class, carrick made a mistake going 2 united, he ent the same player he was, berbatov who is he again? oh yea he was awesome at spurs now he keeps the bench warm at united.. BIG mistake 2 leave.., modric is to a) to classy for you and b) to expensive.. levy ent a fool and he ent guna sell one of our best players 2 you when we are competing in the same league as you, this is media trying 2 unsettle modric even more just like last year… im still holding out that modric will be in a number 14 shirt next season.. either way he wont be going to any english club.. simples.. coys…!!

I had no idea that Tottenham had put Luka Modric on the transfer list. I thought his contract ran to 2016, which admittedly would make a bid to sign and move him elsewhere something worth doing in a couple of years, say summer 2014. Even then, like now, there’ll be a little queue.

@kellyidtay, strong words from a supporter whose team finished below ManU. 1st of all we might not have a sugar daddy owner that will splash cash on every player, however neither does Tottenham. 2nd of all Tottenham re without Champions league football no wonder your best player wants 2 leave… And don’t feed us BS about its only because Chelsea won the CL. Cause ManU only lost da league by a goal within the dying stages of da game… As for the 2 much class story da reason Carrick n Berba flopped is because dey small team players just like Charlie Adams @ Liverpool… Great @ small teams but just can’t make da standards @ a team with actual history…

Modric better than our midfield? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Scholes and Giggs are at a level modric can only dream of so take your spurs/modric loving specs off and come to real world. Clevz, Scholesy, Giggs, Kagawa, Nani, Valencia. Young are creative magicians, not mod-who. Hell Ando and Park brings more to the table. Saying modric is better than Scholes and Giggs is like saying milner is better than Xavi, barry better than Iniesta, bendtner better than Ronaldo or defoe better than Messi, come to the real world, modric would struggle to make our bench. Modric is not creative, not world class, cant score and is pretty slow. We dont want modric, we have never bidded and we never will cuz we dont want him. time spurs stop telling this bs to their paper pals, we know their skint and in financial shit but we arent giving them cash to spend. City or Chelsea can waste 30m on him as he’s not good enough for MANUTD. We spend our cash elsewhere and add more quality buys to our world class squad. Time some people stop believing everything papers write. Spud fans can cry all they want, their club is skint and finished, love it, but we dont want their crap. even with massive injury list we had we batted most teams and nearly won title. We will win back our title back this season and prob champs lge whiles they end 8th. I speak the truth, deal with it.

Modric would be good but if United don’t get him it doesn’t matter. Year on year Fergie and United have consistently challenged for honours. All this drivel about United not being able to compete has been said in pre-season for years and its always been wrong. With a player like Modric how well do Spurs do? Maybe sort yourselves out before you start slagging off the consistently better team. No matter who United sign they’ll challenge for the title, Spurs can hope for no more than fourth max, and that’s with or without Modric… FACT!

If a lot of you non Man U supporters making comments on this sight had been following football
and Man U for as long as myself, you would be aware that United quite ofton buy from the left wing,
meaning they purchase players who were never mentioned in transfer negotiations, or players who
it might be said United had shown a little interest in, now before all you wombats who support other teams try to shoot me down, ask yourself this WHICH IS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TEAM IN
England, I rest my case.

A lot of Utd fans seem to be very excited about Kagawa. He is essentially a back up for Dortmund, he got games last season due to injuries elsewhere (primarily to Goetze). I suggest you wait till you have seen him play before getting too excited. To describe him as lightweight is an understatement. He has two chances of making an impact on the Premier League: Slim and None. And Slim just left town.
He’ll sell a few shirts in Japan tho
