AVB to Tottenham? Noooooooooooooooo!

Stevenage v Tottenham Hotspur - Pre Season Friendly-1148406

It’s like some kind of sick sick bad unfunny joke. Having been considered by Liverpool a few weeks back, the broadsheets are leading this morning with stories of how Daniel Levy is about to offer Andre Villas-Boas the top job at Tottenham. The Guardian says that

‘Daniel Levy wants dynamic young coach to drive club forward’

So why is he after AVB? This is the guy who let his pride get in the way at Chelsea so that the whole club seemingly descended in farce within months of his arrival. He squabbled with his squad. He fought with his Frank. He dithered with his Didier and he failed with Fernando. What exactly did Daniel Levy see in AVB during his time with Chelsea that made him think ‘this guy is mustard. We HAVE to have him.’

soccersweep has witnessed some very interesting reaction to Harry getting the sack. We thought that there would be open revolt when he was given the boot, but many of you think it needed to happen as Harry let his head be turned by England.

But, surely, this is not a step forward for Tottenham? Signing a coach with one good year under his belt in Portugal and one unimaginably bad spell in England? I only wish that I had applied for the position at Tottenham, as the vetting process is obviously pretty slack. I want to point out here that I have nothing personal against AVB. I just wouldn’t want him anywhere near my club.

The Guardian continues:

‘Villas-Boas has sought assurances about future of Luka Modric’

If I were a Tottenham fan I would be seeking assurances about the sanity of the chairman at this point in time.  I hope I am wrong but I fear that, before long, fans will be getting heavily nostalgic about the heyday of Harry.

In Levy I trust, sell Modric though as 40m is a ridiculous price for what? a good player at best! He has been woeful for Spurs this season yet showed what he can do whilst playing for his National team, sell him to that mega rich mafia owned Siberian team where the ground is forever frozen and he will get shot if he does not perform.
AVB yes please, it will be a different thing at Spurs as the team of players are not allowed top be individual prima dona´s like Chelski players are…..too much player power is no good!

he is no where near as bad as you put him out to be and he didnt do that bad a job with chelsea take a look at his stats with chelsea against di mattos he did a better job his side scored more goals on average per game and consided less, the side was also in 5th place just out side the top four while di matto finished 6th, he is only looked at as better because of his champions league run who is to say that AVB wouldnt have done this given the chance. I back AVB for the spurs job and hope he gets it and look forward to a positive season with a new formation and strategy, plus some new players in the team to help add rotation and AVB has proven he likes to give younger players a go which i see as an improvement from harry as he didnt give many of them any chances other than when injuries occured or small parts in the europa league, dont get me wrong i liked harry as a manager and respect him for what he did for the club but i agree its time for a change and AVB is that change and i know your all going to wonder about what is going to happen with Bale and Modric now and to be honest I see Modric being sold for around 40 million pounds which means we can bring in two players to replace him one as a direct replacement who is experienced and one slightly younger to make into a great player.

jose holds this guy in high regard… he was brought into stamford bridge to do a job for the russian… clear the old deadwood away… this clearly back-fired as egos were agitated & press were manipulated… so as stated above, no player at spurs is bigger than the club plus i believe the team ethic is better & AVB will have learn’t from his west london experience to be a better man
besides who would you rather have that’s available??

Been a Spurs fan for forty five years but while we believe pretty flowing fancy football wins trophys we are going to have this discussion regularly because we promise much and deliver little by way of silverware and titles.Would we change our fancy football for the titles the other big four have won with socalled boring football?? I would for sure.Did we enjoy winning SOMETHING under George Graham??You bet.Get Moyes in!!His record speaks for itself and I bet his style of play would change with our squad and money for transfers available

I trust Levy and I think that we run things better than Chelsea. Villas Boas has the energy, he has the moder outlook, he´s won things….i say you are wrong. Harry was good for us when he came. I dont believe that he saved us as we were underperforming at the time and had finished 5th twice in the two seasons before he came. The point is Harrys gone and I dont find that he ever was as invested in Tottenham as say…Jol or Hoddle. This is the same reason that I love BAE and Van Der Vart and not modric. If Villas Boas is appointed i will support him and the team. You are wrong on this one. Chealsea is where careers go to die and, as with Redknapp, Tottenham is where names can be made.

in my opinion, as a football club, chelsea are an anomaly, their nasty, backstabbing cunts of players and their dirty money, evil, megalomaniac owner who treats them like a little toy make me want to ignore any managers time there and focus on their previous results. AVB was told that he was there to rebuild an old team and to shake things up to create a new legacy at chelsea, which he was not given time to do. He also had a better record than di matteo had in the premiership in his tenure in charge. in fact, in my opinion, his year at chelsea could be seen as a good thing for spurs fans, imagine beating them with vilas boas as manager, it would be a right fuck you to them after the humiliation of the previous year, and his desire to do that and his understandable hate for chelsea is a big plus for me. We have a great team that needs a little bit of improving along with a manager with some tactical nous who can build tottenham up to great things. also, you have to understand that chelsea are a team that play boring, clinical football, its in their DNA (along with anti semitism and bribing referees), you cannot just change a club mentality to play exciting, attacking football in a year, as avb tried to do. he did not fit at chelsea, but i have a feeling he will fit at spurs and have great success here. having said that i would slightly prefer laurent blanc as the media bias against avb is ridiculous and us getting him will create a shitstorm and focus that the club does not need right now.

Agree Chelsea are a ridiculous club AVB wouldnt be the only one to flop there……….

Shevchenko, Anelka, Torres, Zhirkov, and nowadays Sturridge have all been destroyed at Chelsea, they have also sacked Ancelotti, Scolari and Mourinho, all excellent managers.

      They are given no time

Also Terry, Lampard and Drogba dictate the way Chelsea play and who they sign, facts are that Terry and Lamps simply arent good enough any more, AVB is the only one brave enough to drop them and he was sacked for it, we have only one character in our squad and thats Gallas but he isnt important to the way we play, AVB will have a lot more control

If this was last summer and Harry was leaving and we were linked with AVB then everyone would be over the mecau se his reputation was very good. Chelsea is a poison pot full of egos and players that think they know better so he wasn’t given any respect, the Chelsea players are shameful for that.

If he becomes the manager let’s give him a chance as benitez or Cappelo
could easily screw it up but this is not being discussed only AVB’s failings!

This will be a major mistake if AVB gets the job! He has done nothing yet and is very young and inexperienced. Levy is mad and only going for a free cheap option in AVB or BLANC. We should of given Harry a 3 yr deal just look at Fergie at 70 odd. Dave Moyes would be my 1st choice then Martinez who plays the Spurs way. Sell Modric for £40 million and get in Eriksen and Moses. Also should go for Kalou who is free and a good squad player. Levy get act together or get out ask the fans what they want!.

Dan, I don’t think you’re a Spurs fan at all considering your previous posts. I have not heard any Spurs fan want to appoint Moyes as manager and getting rid of Modric. Only a gooner would want that!

    • Jamie

      Jun 20, 2012 at 10:25 am

Wow, you know nothing about football, Chelsea fans call Kalou “Kalouness” because he has no footballing brain what so ever, he also plays left midfield where Bale plays….

Harry can’t be compared to Fergie, Fergie has won 20+ trophys, Harry has won ONE, they are a similar age, have been in the game as long, but they are the only similarities.
Harry has relegated Southampton, Bankrput Pompey, Blown a 13 point lead with Spurs, and did NOTHING at West Ham.

In the big games he flops we have been smashed by every big club this season, City 5-1, Utd 3-0 (TWICE), Arsenal 5-2, Chelsea 5-1……why? because Harry has no tactical nuise and doesnt no what to do if the players dont turn up, doesnt make correct changes, doesnt utilize his squad.

Also look at his transfer dealings, Palacios 14m, Defoe 15m, Crouch 10m, Bassong 8m, they are our biggest signings and none of them have ever been regulars……add to that Pienaar and Krancjar. Parker was hardly a find, everyone knows he is a good signing but nobody else went for him because he is old and will be on the decline with no sell on value.

Sandro was signed by Broomfield according to Harry and VDV by Levy again unveiled by Harry

The reason we are so good is because of Bale and Modric, 2 players Comolli signed….

Harry is a good manager and lifting underachieveing sides into the top half, he should go to Aston Villa, as soon as they start getting top 6 though Harry should move on he has proved he cant manage a top club which is why England didnt want him

Why is everyone blowing up at AVB possibly being the new coach. He “failed” if you can even call it that because the likes of Lampard, Terry and Drogba and all those other old aging losers at Chelsea didn’t like the fact they weren’t the bosses anymore. Once they got their way eg AVB being sacked they quit sulking and actually played decent football. AVB will succeed at Spurs because he won’t have the giant childish egos to deal with like he did at Chelsea.

An open revolt over a guy who said he would have left us if offered the England job. Every manager has his downside except Mourinho. I doubt even Mourinho would satisfy you. Who is your chosen one?

Whilst initially not convinced either, it makes perfect logical sense.
Redknapp for whatever reason failed to get what was our 3rd place but then so did the players. A new and young manager with a fresh approach and incentive is what is needed and any players (who were also just as gulity for our 3rd place collapse) can sling their hook thus leaving the new man in charge to do his thing with players that he’ll be bringing in for the future.
It’s got “1 step back to take 2 steps forward” written all over it (in terms of league position) but is actually the best way forward.
    Levy’s a genius

I have to admitwhen the news first broke about Sherwood and AVB I was thinking oh my god NO !
But now after sleeping on it researching and thinking about it I say BRING IT ON…two young hungry guys who want to succeed. Surely that is a menu for success and trophies.
AVB a very clever man and with his tactics and brains thats only going to help and Sherwood with his drive and knowledge of the clubs ethos its a mtach made in heaven.
Give the guys a chance and get behind the team. COYS !!!!

Everyone is talking about AVB losing the dressing room at Chelsea because of the big egos. Well in my opinion that shows that he is a weak man manager. Would the same situation have happened if Harry was Chelsea manager last season? Some how I doubt it! I totally agree with the article and really can’t understand on what basis people see in AVB to suggest he might do well at Spurs? I think Levy and co have totally lost the plot on this one!

AVB or even L. Blanc, yessssssss I,d except either. It would seem at last we are down to just two names, thank god because we are all getting quite sick of it all by now, well I am at least!!! All you spurs fans, whoever you want to replace Harry, just bloody hope it is resolved sooner than later. Because we are in serious danger of losing more players than have already been mentioned if it is,nt. This also includes all those hopeful new arrivals. The least Levy and the board should do is make a sensible statement on the matter and at least get the media off our backs, that mob are making matters ten times worse.

AVB or now that idiot rag The Daily Star is running with Capello God Help us. I read in disbelief the comments saying they totally trust Levy, are you mad? do you remember what he did to Jol and gave us Ramos.
I accept that AVB can’t go from the most sought after to the worlds worst in 8 months and he will have something to prove but anyone who thinks that Levy is to be trusted needs to look at our history. Redknap wasn’t my favourite but he gave us 4th 5th 4th with the lowest wage bill in the top seven and got sacked for it.
‘In Levy we trust’ keep up son.

The only one with any sense is the person writing this article. You lot don’t know when we have had it so good. Have you noticed that when the last two consistant managers we have had 5th, 5th, JOL and 2 points when we had only 2 points to 8th at the end of the season and then 4th, 5th and 4th. Levy does not like it when the manager is more popular than him. AVB takes charge say hello to the championship. Good luck traveling to barnley in 2013/2014 season. Been a true supporter of thfc for 30 years but avb takes over and kiss goodbye to the premiership for good. 1 step forward and 20 places back. COYS
