Chelsea: Time running out for AVB

This may turn out to be a wildly innacurate story but we have been here on many occasions in the past. When the tide begins to turn against a manager, in the way it has with AVB, it’s usually just a question of when rather than if.

We hear this morning that the Chelsea manager had a furious argument with his squad after bringing them in to dress them down following the defeat to Everton at the weekend.

The guardian reports that ‘In the blow-up, they (Chelsea players) told him exactly what they thought of him and his tactics, to lay bare the tensions at the club.’

I would be amazed if AVB hangs on for much longer after this alleged event. When the manager loses the dressing room he has surely reached the point of no return, as he has even less chance of changing the club’s fortunes on the pitch.

AVB’s appointment was rash. Like getting a girlfriend that looks like the one who broke your heart, Roman Abramovich thought that AVB could do a Jose, but it wasn’t that simple.

It seems that most decisions made by Chelsea FC since (and including) the sacking of Mourinho have been bad ones. When they did get a top manager (Guus Hiddink) they couldn’t hold on to him. Of all the players bought in since Mourinho, only Juan Mata has shown world class promise. It’s a club with vast wealth but also a club in decline because of consistently bad decision making.

In my opinion, Chelsea need to get Mourinho, or more likely Hiddink back as soon as possible and leave the football men to make the football decisions once more. Only then will Chelsea stop the rot.
