Transfer Latest: Manchester United in talks for brilliant new midfield solution as Plan A fades – report

Anything other than the signing of Chilean World Cup star Arturo Vidal for Manchester United this summer will be viewed with huge disappointment by the fans. Because they have invested so much energy and time following the story of his potential transfer to the club and would love to see the Plan A come off.

Vidal would also represent the A-list, Hollywood signing that Manchester United have been awaiting since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club in 2009. Since then they have heard a hell of a lot of speculation about arrivals but only Robin van Persie has come through the door in terms of players of real note.

But Vidals’s recent knee problem could well put Manchester United off signing Vidal, especially in light of the massive aggro they had with Owen Hargreaves.

This could turn their attention elsewhere and reports today suggest that Nigel De Jong may be seen as the short term solution while the club waits for the recovery of Roma player Kevin Strootman.

The Express reports:

MANCHESTER UNITED are in talks with Nigel De Jong’s representatives over a move to Old Trafford this summer.

In truth De Jong is a poor man’s Vidal – he’s more basic version of the Chilean with less goal threat and inferior technique. But he’s played 76 times for Holland and, at 29, he’s at his peak. He’s a highly disciplined and mobile player who will break up attacks and keep his passing simple.

Manchester United will soon forget that he played for their hated rivals if he starts showing his best form.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: would you rather sign De Jong and wait for Strootman than sign Vidal at this stage?

    Sign Vidal instead

  2. I want to tell man united manager LVG and fans to forget about Arturo Vidal, and go for Louis Gustavo from wolfberg.Gustavo is cheaper than Vidal. His buy-out-clause at wolfberg is €26m and he is a good player u can help to slove man u problem in the midfield.LVG please look at this gus as another alternative to Vidal .I think signing this gus will be good, for your new system you want t introduced for the coming season.I’m talk about this gus performent for both club and country.

on his club for last season and his performent for his country at the summer world cup in Brasil

  4. shawn says:

De Jong would be great signing if we don’t sign vidal, overpriced in my opinion, while we wait on strootman :) which i hope we sign. Also we should look in daley blind? a versatile player who can fill in for multiple positions, which should also cover de jong or any other full-back positions but i hope we get a centerback quick, hummels would be great, our youngsters look great esp blackett who seems composed and has a great touch, i’m sure they would benefit from someone like hummels.

  9. Osipitan Olalekan says:

Please forget De jong and sign Vidal and Atletico Madrid Midfielder trun. while we wait on strootman in January

  10. Plz i think what we need is apotential holding midfieder, so i see no reason of rotating on vidal yet gustavo is reliable&more cheaper to perform the same task.LVG get serious

  11. Stone-X says:

Please LVG, give ears to your club fans & go for Vidal,Man U as it stands now need real men like vidal to remain where we use to be,injury or no injury, let’s have faith in God that he would recover. Remember your country man RIP days of injury in Arsenal, but today,he’s world best.
