Manchester United: Big transfer links – 2 short odds to sign

Of all the Premier League big boys Manchester United arguably look the most likely to splash the cash in the winter window. With a creative hole in the midfield and an ageing defence you would imagine that David Moyes will attempt to bring in at least one big name in January.

A left-back seemingly remains high on the list of priorities for Manchester United and Leighton Baines is reportedly still in the frame despite his recent injury.

The Metro says today:

The Old Trafford hierarchy will sanction a spending spree in the January sales with Everton left-back Leighton Baines – currently out with the broken toe – top of the list after Everton rejected United advances in the summer.

Baines remains 7/4 favourite with SkyBet to join Manchester United in January.

The same outlet roles out another familiar name today:

United also want to strengthen their midfield and Athletic Bilbao star Ander Herrera, a 24-year-old who plays in the centre of the pitch, is still on their radar after a summer move failed to materialise.

Herrera too is shortest odds to join United, at 2/1. We wouldn’t be at all surprised if Manchester United brought these two in in January and it would represent decent business.

But it’s the third which really excites. Sadly, it’s also the deal which looks least likely right now. Various reports again suggest that Manchester United will attempt to prise Ilkay Gundogan from Dortmund in the window.

We think that this guy could be the missing link for United. He’s a footballer’s footballer. Someone who makes the game look easy and has a proper football brain. He’s quick, mobile and has a super touch. He’s a player who knits teams together and hates to pass backwards – but, with Borussia Dortmund still in The Champions League you would imagine them loathe to lose one of their best players in January.

Still, let’s remind ourselves of his brilliance. CLICK FOR GUNDOGAN
