Pure Class

We still feel that Manchester United could pull off a major deal in the closing days of the window.

We can debate all we like about Ed Woodwards’ transfer acumen, or lack of.

But if Manchester United don’t do a mega-deal before September it certainly won’t be for the want of trying or because the bar was set too low.

The Guardian has reported that when Real Madrid made their interest in David de Gea known this summer, that Manchester United went for the jugular.

They say:

Initially they wanted a player-plus-cash exchange with Gareth Bale and, when that got them nowhere, the second option involved Sergio Ramos.

If you ask Manchester United fans who their number one choice would be this summer, many would say Gareth Bale without a moment of hesitation.

He’s proven himself beyond all doubt in The Premier League and, at 25, he’s coming into his prime.

He has found a place on the right wing at Real Madrid and there is currently a gaping hole in that position in the Manchester United side.

It looks unlikely that the player will move to Manchester United this summer.

But it’s a make or break year for Bale in Spain.

If he has a stormer then expect a new contract to be on the table next summer.

But, with some whistles to be heard in his last performance for the club in midweek, the pressure is on.

And if he performs like he did last season then surely he will be a gettable if highly expensive target for Manchester United again next summer.
