Report: Seriously bad transfer news for Chelsea

No Way

This one is a real head scratcher.

It is of course all speculation at this point.

But we always say that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market and this comes from a pretty substantial source.

The Daily Mail says:

According to reports in Italy, Ramires is on the verge of joining the Serie A champions as they try to replace the likes of Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo in the centre of midfield.

Ramires was a key element of the team under Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez.

But he has been used more sparingly under Jose Mourinho.

Nevertheless, he is still seen by most Chelsea fans as a perfect cover for Nemnanja Matic.

And, in the big games, when Jose uses two anchor men, who better than the Brazilian to shore things up next to Matic?

But, if the reports are to be believed, then Jose doesn’t see it this way.

You would imagine that, unless he plans to promote a youngster from the highly promising under 21s, then Chelsea will re-enter the market for a midfielder should Ramires indeed leave the club.

At 28 years of age Ramires has played 225 games for Chelsea (34 goals) since joining the club in 2010.

He has also played over 50 times for Brazil and scored 4 goals.

Chelsea fans: Is Ramires past his best or would the club be making a huge mistake if they offloaded the reliable midfielder?

Ramires pass completion has been on the decline, he loses a lot of possession and trips when trying to make a run with the ball. Most times I wonder whether his aim is all about getting easy calls than playing ball. I stopped being his top fan two seasons ago. He can ride on to a new pasture green. He is a great guy and I still remember his early years with some fond memories and I will never forget his goal against Barca in 2012 UCL semi-final at Camp Nou.

It’s better for him to move on. Chelsea needs a better midfielder to shore up the midfield as I don’t see Ramires making a serious impact for Chelsea if matic gets injured or suspended. He covers a lot of ground during games but has less impact on play. He’s not even rated amongs the best 20 midfielders in the premier league. If Chelsea can sell him, I will prefer him replaced by arsenal target, Grzegorzy krychowiak of Sevilla who has a buy out clause of 21 million pounds and a far better rating by every standard.
