Real Madrid’s surprise striking option?

Is this dude for real?

We have become accustomed to seeing Real Madrid splurge huge sums of money on creative talents each summer.

And we certainly aren’t ruling out another spending spree in this window. With six weeks left of the transfer window they may well swoop for a forward.

Because despite having Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in the ranks they may look for extra backup in the forward areas.

But Spanish media outlet Marca has suggested that they may solve the problem of a lack of depth up front from within their current squad.

They say:

One figure who is looking increasingly likely to stay is Denis Cheryshev. The Russian had some doubts about his future when he reported for pre-season duty, concerned that he wouldn’t get any playing time, but Benítez is delighted with him

The report says that the Russian is viewed, by the new manager, as the perfect understudy for Cristiano Ronaldo on the left side of the attack.

The 24 year old has been on loan at other La Liga clubs over the last two years. He spent a season at Sevilla and one at Villareal.

And while he hasn’t been a prolific goal scorer he has impressed enough to draw admiring glances from clubs in Spain and England, according to the report.

While many Real Madrid fans are hoping for a big money arrival this summer, perhaps the club will, for once, take the economical route this season and use the talented Cheryshev more often than many had suspected.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action.
