Arsenal: Surprise inclusion on Saturday?

Fit Squad

In his weekly press conference Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave very encouraging news on the injury front as he confirmed that all of his long term absentees, Abou Diaby, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere came through their reserve fixture on Tuesday unscathed.

They came through the game on Tuesday well. They were at a good level physically and they should all be available from now on until the end of the season hopefully.

Said Arsene, via the club’s official website, Arsenal.com

But, perhaps the surprise inclusion for Saturday’s game against Burnley could be the excellent but hapless Mathieu Debuchy. Of the Frenchman Wenger said:

Debuchy is alright. I can only play three players over 21 [in the under-21 league] so he is physically fit and ready. He lacks a bit of a competitive edge but overall he has no medical problems.

Hector Bellerin has been one of the finds of the season at right back and is improving every week. But, despite his goal at the weekend, Debuchy may still be seen as No.1 for the right back berth when fit. Perhaps Wenger was holding him back in the knowledge that his game time will come at the weekend.

More likely Bellerin will retain his place after some superb form of late. But we wouldn’t be surprised to see the French international get some minutes on the pitch on Saturday, particularly if Arsenal trot into a decent lead with an hour gone. But that’s easier said that done against Sean Dyche’s battlers.

Arsenal fans: Is Debuchy still your best right back when fit?
