Arsene Wenger has given an update on Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s futures

Arsene Wenger has conceded that Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil could leave in January if neither player commits to a new deal.

Arsenal’s star duo are both out of contract at the end of the season and talks have shown little sign of progress.

Sanchez came close to joining Manchester City following a £60million offer on Deadline Day, but that move fell through because of the Gunners’ failure to bring in Monaco’s Thomas Lemar as a replacement.

Ozil appears to have attracted less interest than his Chilean team-mate, although top European clubs may well start to take notice if he is available on a free transfer.

When discussing whether Arsenal would cash in on the pair in the New Year window, Wenger admitted he has given it serious thought. However, he also refused to rule out the possibility of them signing extensions.

“Once you are in our situation, you envisage every solution. It [selling Ozil and Sanchez] is possible,” the Frenchman told a press conference.

“I always said just because we didn’t find agreement, it doesn’t mean they will leave.

“Both players are happy here – I hope the situation can turn around.”

With Chile having failed to qualify for the World Cup, Sanchez is now free to concentrate solely on Arsenal’s fortunes this season.

It’s unclear as yet whether that will include this weekend’s trip to Watford, as he may be rested following his country’s 3-0 defeat to Brazil.
