Pep Guardiola made targeting full-backs his priority in the summer.
Kyle Walker joined Manchester City in a £50million deal from Spurs, and he will be competing with former Real Madrid man Danilo as they try and compensate for the departure of veteran Pablo Zabaleta.
On the left, Benjamin Mendy was one of two players brought in from Monaco, following Bernardo Silva from the principality to the north-west of England.
Mendy has since suffered knee ligament damage and could be out until April.
That means Guardiola will once again have to address his problem position in January.
Fortunately, the Sun report he has already identified a possible replacement for his ailing French international, as Faouzi Ghoulam will cost around £3million in the New Year.
The Napoli defender is out of contract next summer, leaving the Serie A outfit keen to cash in on him at the earliest opportunity.
Conveniently, City will face Napoli in the Champions League next week, opening up the possibility of talks.
Guardiola is hoping that a contract offer of around £90,000 a week will be enough to tempt the 26-year-old.
