Dele Alli played no part as Tottenham got their Champions League campaign underway with an important 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
An early strike from Heung-Min Son and a Harry Kane brace gave Spurs the three points, but Alli sat out through suspension following his red card in the Europa League last season against Gent.
While an international ban is now hanging over him for his inappropriate gesture during England vs Slovakia, the incidents haven’t decreased his stock.
The Lilywhites have held onto him for two successive summers, but that could be much more difficult at the end of the current season.
According to a report in Thursday’s Times, the 21-year-old is at the centre of a tug-of-war between agents, particularly Jorge Mendes and Mino Raiola.
These names will not be welcomed by Spurs fans, as they have reputations for engineering big moves for players and there is a concern that Alli has one eye on a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Raiola represents Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Jorge Mendes is a close ally of Jose Mourinho and works with Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez.
Alli split from Rob Segal and Impact Sports Management, who has represented him since he was 15 at MK Dons, last month, in a worrying hint that could suggest he is looking to leave north London.
It’s thought Mendes and Raiola have approached the playmaker through his adoptive family in Buckinghamshire.
The midfielder still has five years to run on his contract, but he could earn considerably higher wages elsewhere.
