The Mirror claim that having failed to bring in a wide player this summer, Jose Mourinho wants to bid upwards of £90million for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
The 21-year-old was, of course, targeted by Arsenal on Deadline Day before the collapse of that £91million deal forced Alexis Sanchez to remain at the Emirates.
It’s expected that Arsene Wenger will go back in for the French international in the New Year, yet he could now find the Gunners competing with United.
Lemar enhanced his reputation even further with two goals for Les Bleus in their recent win over the Netherlands.
If it becomes a straight tug-of-war between the two Premier League clubs, then United have the added advantage of being able to offer Champions League football and as things stand in the early stages of the season, a more realistic shot at winning the title.
