Man United receive boost in Griezmann chase

Antoine Griezmann took the honourable decision to stay with Atletico Madrid this summer after their appeal against a transfer embargo failed.

The Frenchman was conscious that the Rojiblancos wouldn’t be able to replace him if he left the Spanish capital, hence why he decided against leaving for Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is still looking for a new number seven and despite strengthening with the signings of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku, and Nemanja Matic, he was unable to find a suitable attacking midfielder at the right price.

Griezmann remains a long-term target, and according to Mundo Deportivo, he is now available for €100million again.

His new contract, which doesn’t expire until 2022, initially included a release clause of €200m, which has now been reduced back to its original terms.

That is only going to fuel speculation of a January move, as by then Atleti will be free to sign a replacement.

The 26-year-old scored 16 goals and provided eight assists in La Liga last season, form which has unsurprisingly attracted Mourinho.
