If Antonio Conte’s Chelsea squad is as weak as he says it is, it will be interesting to see how much game time he affords Willian this season.
The Brazilian is always impressive when he does feature, yet he failed to make much of an impression on Conte last term despite a tally of eight league goals from just 15 starts.
The Times claim the 29-year-old could be offered a way out of his uncertain situation at Stamford Bridge by Barcelona.
Chelsea were not opposed to selling him this summer and only rejected an offer because it came from Manchester United; while they allowed Nemanja Matic to join their Premier League rivals, there was no chance they would allow two players to head to Old Trafford.
Barcelona’s transfer business has been somewhat underwhelming this summer. Willian would not really change that, but he would go some way towards giving them more options in attacking midfield.
So far, Ernesto Valverde’s most expensive signing has been former Tottenham flop Paulinho for £36million. The Blaugrana have lacked an edge going forward since Neymar’s departure, hence why they are targeting players like Willian and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.
