Chelsea have received a surprise approach for Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill has not covered himself in glory in the early stages of Chelsea’s season after his sending off against Burnley.

The Blues skipper has left his side short at the back, but that doesn’t seem to have dampened interest in him from abroad.

According to the Sun, Juventus have made enquiries about the availability of the centre-back as they continue to hunt for a replacement for Leonardo Bonucci, who left for AC Milan earlier this summer.

This could work out in Chelsea’s favour, as Antonio Conte retains an interest in Claudio Marchisio. The Italy international is keen to leave the Old Lady because he is conscious he needs to be playing regularly to make Gli Azzurri’s World Cup squad for 2018.

It’s being reported that Conte is unsure whether he sees Cahill playing a big part this term – though, of course, Conte can’t guarantee he’ll be in charge for the entirety of the campaign amid rumours concerning his own future.

Antonio Rudiger could replace the former Bolton defender as first choice, with David Luiz or Cesar Azpilicueta partnering the Germany international.

Juve have been keen on Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin, but with neither completing a move to Turin, the door has opened for Cahill to make a surprise move.
