Pep Guardiola has left a group of Manchester City players under no illusions about their futures after leaving them out of the squad for the club’s pre-season tour of the USA.
As reported in the Daily Mail, Joe Hart, Wilfried Bony, Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri and Jason Denayer have all been left at home.
None of them come as a massive surprise. There is little room for Hart, despite Claudio Bravo’s poor maiden campaign, following the signing of Ederson, and the other four have been on the fringes at the Etihad for quite some time.
Bony has only scored six goals since joining from Swansea in January 2015 when Manuel Pellegrini was still in charge. Nasri was sent on loan to Sevilla last term. Mangala and Denayer were loaned to Valencia and Sunderland respectively.
For all the money they have spent, Guardiola’s squad still lacks depth in some areas, particularly in defence.
City will face Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham as they gear up for the start of the Premier League season on August 12.
