Chelsea close to completing £60million signing

Conte

Chelsea are close to completing the signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, reports Sky Italia.

The two clubs have had some minor differences in negotiations, but the Dutchman is now expected to move to Stamford Bridge in a £60million deal.

Antonio Conte has been eyeing a centre-back to replace the outgoing John Terry. David Luiz had a fine 2016/2017 season, but doubts remain about his consistency as a defender.

Van Dijk’s season was cut short by injury, but he had already done enough by then to attract several suitors.

The former Celtic man looked set to join Liverpool earlier this summer before the Reds were forced to issue an apology to Southampton and withdraw their interest amid accusations of tapping-up.

Chelsea’s business is likely to end there, however, as the same source suggest they are continuing their pursuit of Juventus’ Alex Sandro. The Old Lady insist the Brazilian is not for sale, but the Blues will return with another offer.
