Arsenal and Chelsea could find themselves going head-to-head for Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos, reports Goal.

The defender is thought to be content at BVB, but as Bayern Munich continue their dominance of the Bundesliga, he may be tempted to move to a club where he is more likely to win silverware.

Dortmund finished 18 points behind the Bavarians and only just qualified for the Champions League.

Chelsea are expected to bring in at least one centre-back as they look to replace the outgoing John Terry. As for Arsenal, Sokratis could prove successor to Per Mertesacker. Arsene Wenger already has Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny as his first-choice partnership, while Rob Holding has been impressive as a back-up.

Sokratis is highly-valued by Dortmund, but they would most likely be asking for in the region of £23million for the 29-year-old.

The two Premier League sides may look to take advantage of the uncertainty at the Westfalenstadion following the departure of boss Thomas Tuchel.
