Zlatan Ibrahimovic may well be regretting his decision to stall on a new Manchester United contract.
The club were desperate to tie him down to a longer deal having seen him score 27 goals in all competitions this season.
It appeared the Swede was waiting to see whether the Red Devils would make the Champions League before committing, but it’s now likely that he’s played his last game for the club.
An injury to his anterior cruciate ligament has ruled him out for the rest of the campaign and beyond. At 35 years of age, there are serious doubts about whether he’ll play again at all, but the Mirror report that the striker has made a decision on his immediate future.
It’s claimed that Ibra has quite rationally accepted that he won’t feature again in a United shirt, but he is insistent that his playing days aren’t over.
Instead, he will target a move to the MLS once he has returned to full fitness.
It would be a tragedy if Zlatan’s career were to end on such a disappointing note, and if he can recover, it would be great for his career to finish in America rather than fizzling out altogether.
