Tottenham bracing themselves for £40m bid from Man United

Jose-Mourinho

Tottenham did well to keep hold of their key men after their third-placed finish last season.

The Lilywhites look on course to go one better than that this time around, but they’re going to have to fight even harder to convince the likes of Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris to stay.

One man Daniel Levy wouldn’t necessarily have been expecting to be in demand is Eric Dier.

The 23-year-old has had an up-and-down season largely as a result of changing positions; the arrival of Victor Wanyama has seen Mauricio Pochettino reshuffle his starting XI, and Dier is now operating on the right side of a back three.

The England international has had a couple of slip-ups in defence, but his versatility still appears to have impressed Jose Mourinho.

That’s according to the Sun, who claim Manchester United could offer £40million to make him their first summer signing.

With Michael Carrick reaching the end of his contract, the Red Devils are keen to bring in another holding midfielder, with Dier also boosting their homegrown quota.

Antoine Griezmann is still likely to be their priority, but luring anyone away from Tottenham and back into the Europa League is going to be a huge statement – if United can pull it off.
