Erik Lamela scouted for Serie A return

The mystery of exactly what’s happened to Erik Lamela could end this summer, with the attacking midfielder looking increasingly likely to leave Tottenham.

The Argentine hasn’t featured for Spurs since the EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool in October, as a hip injury and personal problems have conspired to keep him out.

A lot of the White Hart Lane faithful have resigned themselves to the fact that they won’t be seeing him in a Lilywhites shirt again.

That could well be true if reports in Italy are to be believed. Corriere dello Sport have it that Inter Milan are interested and could make a move, Mauricio Pochettino having re-worked his system around Lamela’s absence.

Heung-Min Son has taken his place and scored 14 goals in the process, so even if Lamela were fit, a question mark would remain over whether he would actually be getting in the starting XI.

The 25-year-old has played in Serie A before with Roma and looked more settled there than he ever has at Tottenham.
