Liverpool fans still remember with painful nostalgia what it was like to have Luis Suarez spearheading their attack.
The Uruguayan left Anfield in 2014 to head to Barcelona, but it appears it could all have panned out very differently.
At that time, Liverpool just weren’t competing at the top, so it was inevitable that the controversial star would leave.
Yet, Marca are reporting that he could have in fact joined Real Madrid.
The Spanish publication claim that Real’s then-boss Carlo Ancelotti snubbed Suarez as he preferred Karim Benzema, because he deemed the Frenchman better at link-up play.
That might well be true – the forward is an excellent side-kick to Cristiano Ronaldo, and it’s how he keeps top players like Alvaro Morata out of the Los Blancos side.
Lionel Messi and Neymar would probably argue that Suarez links up with them just fine, and he certainly hasn’t fared badly at the Nou Camp, scoring another 29 goals this season.
Benzema may not be the most glamorous Galactico at the Bernabeu, but just imagine if Zinedine Zidane was able to call on Suarez.
