It looks as if Mauricio Pochettino is going to have to stick around a little while longer if he is to complete his mission of turning Tottenham into title-winners.
The Lilywhites’ squad just needs a bit more tweaking, and with Chelsea running away from them, Spurs are already considering how they’ll be strengthening in the transfer window.
Ross Barkley is not the only Premier League player Pochettino has got his eye on, reports the Evening Standard.
Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha is another target, though that has already been widely covered.
More surprising are two attackers on Tottenham’s radar.
Burnley striker Andre Gray, who has scored nine goals this season, is being seen as a strong back-up for Harry Kane and could replace Vincent Janssen at White Hart Lane.
Namesake Demarai Gray of Leicester is being monitored too. Spurs expressed an interest in the midfielder while he was still at Birmingham, and that hasn’t gone away now he’s with the champions.
Gray produced a stunning performance in the FA Cup replay against Derby, but was bizarrely then dropped by Claudio Ranieri. The 20-year-old is versatile and can play on either side – if he arrives, it could well spell the end of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.
